Grey Shetland wool cable beanie
This lovely natural grey goes with anything. The colour is not achieved with dyes; it is the natural colour of the soft wool from which they are made. I have hand-knit this pretty women’s beanie hat from a blend of two British wools: Shetland and Blue-faced Leicester. I have used a classic cable pattern with a ribbed welt to keep your ears warm.
As usual I have knitted this hat "in-the-round" so there are no ugly or uncomfortable seams. To fit average adult head size 55-60cm (21.5-23 inches) and slightly stretchy for a comfortable fit.
Hand-washing is best to keep pure wool in top condition, but if your machine has a cool/ gentle/ wool setting then that works too! Never put wool into a tumble drier, as it will shrink and felt.
I love working with the many different wools produced here from British breeds of sheep. The Shetland is one of the smallest British breeds. They produce fine soft wool in many natural browns and greys as well as white. The Blue-faced Leicester looks down it's long roman nose at you. It is the skin which is dark blue/grey colour - the wool is white and curly, and one of the softest in the UK.
